Did you know that: The Datoga tribe in Tanzania is a semi nomadic and pastoralist tribe of Tanzania who live in the northern part of Tanzania in Manyara,Nothern Singida and Shinyanga regions.Also they live west of Lake Eyasi as well as in the semi-arid areas such as Mang'ola,Basutu plains and along the West bank of East rift valley west of Mount Hanang' found in Katesh,Manyara region. Datogas are also a Nilotic group of people and history said that, they are the first people to reach the East Africa.The scatterings of Datogas in Tanzania now days is because of Masai penetrating and capturing their land. When Masai reach the Datogas Land they found they look like them and they practice the same culture like them. Then they called them Mang’ati which means the respected enemy. The Datogas found in Shinyanga and northen Singida are known as Taturu, this name was given by Sukuma people, during hunting or following stolen cow, Datogas were good at tracking foot print by showing the animal’s foot print by saying (Turu,Turu means foot print is here,here,here). But the Datoga(Mang’ati) they refer their self as Barabaig means Beaters of Sticks (bar = to beat, baig = sticks). Also other tribes like Nyaturu people (Arimi means Farmer) people of central Singida who are the Child of Sukuma and Taturu they refer Mang’ati as Barabaig remember Nyaturu and Taturu are two different tribes. From other sources said that, The Barabaig are one of the Nilotic peoples[2] who migrated south to East Africa from the Nile Valley in North Africa more than a thousand years ago. They form the largest group among the Tatoga-speaking people. Linguists tell us they entered what is now Kenya late in the first millennium AD where they congregated around Mount Elgon up until around 250 years ago.[3] In the late 1800s, German explorers found them on the Serengeti plains of German East Africa now Tanzania.[4] Archaeological evidence suggests that they were still in the Ngorongoro Highlands until around 150 years ago, before they were chased out by the Maasai, who live there to this day, still calling the area Osupuko loo Ltatua (Mountains of the Tatoga).[5] The Tatoga then headed south along the eastern branch of East Africa's Great Rift Valley and eventually split into groups they call emojiga.
